Bio:

Ashley Atkins is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Western Michigan University. She received her PhD in philosophy from Princeton in 2014, under the supervision of Delia Graff Fara and Gideon Rosen. Her research falls within three main areas: the philosophy of mind, social and political philosophy, and the philosophy of language.

She received an NEH Fellowship in support of a book project related to grief. The book aims to set a new agenda for the study of grief that is grounded in the rich and complex first-hand literature of grief--from contemporaneous, often fragmentary notes on grief to the modern "grief memoir."

Dr. Atkins is a member of the University Center for Humanities Board, the Higher Education for the Justice-Involved (HEJI) Working Group, and Minorities and Philosophy (MAP).
