Global Social
Hosted weekly, Global Socials are an opportunity to participate in fun cross-cultural activities, guest speeches and events, while mingling with fellow domestic and international students. This is a great opportunity to learn more and ask questions about the Global Engagement Program (GEP) and WMU Study Abroad. All are welcome!
- 9/9/2026 - A Language Exchange: Join the Global Engagement Program and Center for English Language and Culture for International Students for a language exchange! Brush up on your language skills or help others with their own. Language games and conversation starters will be provided.
- 9/16/202 - A Mexican Independence Day Celebration: Make papel picado, play loteria, and learn more about Mexico’s Independence Day!
- 9/23/2026 - Discussions on Cultural Appropriation: Luau themed frat parties? Dupattas rebranded as “Scandinavian scarfs”? Planning to dress as Jasmine and Aladdin for Halloween? Come discuss the differences between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.
- 9/30/2026 - Portuguese Tile Painting: Learn about the rich and vibrant history of Portugal's beautiful tiles while trying your hand at painting your own!
- 10/07/2026 - Spice Tasting: Enjoy a little taste of the globe! Common spices and seasonings from around the world will be available to try with a neutral base of a cracker and creme fraiche.
- 10/14/2026 - Lessons in Origami: Come learn more about the history and global impact of the art of origami while following instructional guides on creating your own masterpiece!
- 10/28/2026 -Documentary Viewing: Watch and discuss two documentaries that highlight the many ways that differences in culture, race and ethnicity affect health and the delivery of healthcare services, and how science and different cultures and traditions from around the world embrace the importance of interconnectedness.
- 11/4/2026 - Yoga and Meditation: Come learn more about the practices of yoga and mindfulness to help re-center yourself during the end of semester stress!
- 11/11/2026 - International Education Week Reception: Come celebrate International Education Week by hearing about all of the international research that your peers are doing and exploring a study abroad fair! We will have small snacks and drinks and attending this event will count for a core Global Bronco credit.
- 11/18/2026 - Multicultural Book Fair: We may not be Scholastic, but we’ve got books! Come check out a multicultural and globally focused book fair. All books will be able to be checked out from the WMU Library after the event.
- 12/2/2025 - Global Board Games: Come learn and play games from and inspired by different cultures around the world!
Remember, these events can earn you GEP credit. Check your status and find global events any time in Experience WMU, accessible through your student portal.
