Anthony P. Helms, M.A., M.B.A., is assistant dean of the Lee Honors College at Western Michigan University. He provides leadership for strategic enrollment management, student success initiatives, academic advising, honors curriculum, prestigious scholarships, undergraduate research, and experiential learning programs.
During his leadership tenure, 2019 to present, the college has experienced significant enrollment growth while maintaining exceptional retention and increased graduation outcomes. Helms has led the development of innovative programs that connect students with research, service, leadership, and place-based learning opportunities, including the nationally recognized Study in the States program. His work is guided by a simple belief: transformative educational experiences can change students' lives and empower them to transform their communities.
A three-time graduate of Western Michigan University, Helms earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Anthropology and a Master of Business Administration. He currently serves as president of the board of directors for Alpha Lambda Delta honor society which is dedicated to academic excellence and student success among first-year college students. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he remains committed to community engagement through volunteer service and youth mentorship in Kalamazoo.
