Get Involved
There are a multitude of ways for students to get involved with Multicultural Affairs for Students (MAS) and/or registered student organizations (RSOs). All members of the WMU community are welcome to attend events unless otherwise noted.
Individual
Students can volunteer to become a MAS student ambassador. MAS Student Ambassadors represent the office’s initiatives for student social connection, community, and outreach of MAS support services.
RSOs
RSOs can become affiliated with MAS through the RSOs United: Diversity Multicultural Collective (RUN: DMC) program. RUN: DMC brings together representatives from across different communities together.
MAS Student Ambassadors represent the office’s initiatives for student social connection, community, and outreach of MAS support services. Ambassadors volunteer for MAS to gain applicable real-world experiences while connecting WMU students to MAS support services. Ambassador responsibilities include:
- Assisting with MAS events and student engagement.
- Outreach to various WMU student populations to connected them to MAS support and/or services.
Upon completion of the ambassador program, volunteers will receive the following:
- Recommendation letter
- Ambassador program certification and badging
- Volunteer hours and applicable work experiences
RSOs (registered student organizations) United: Diversity Multicultural Collective (RUN: DMC) brings together representatives from across different communities together.
To receive MAS endorsement, RSOs must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Facilitate a monthly meeting with other RSOs that are affiliated to the student communities served. (Example: Black Student Union hosting a monthly meeting with representatives from other Black/African American RSOs, etc.)
- Attend a monthly meeting facilitated by WMU ODI for community building, leadership, and professional development. This meeting will include representatives from APASA, BSU, LSA, MGC, NASO, NPHC, etc.
