As a senior at Western Michigan University majoring in Film and Journalism, my internship with NowKalamazoo as an Editorial Assistant was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. The internship opened so many doors for me, including the chance to keep working with NowKalamazoo as a freelance reporter, which has been amazing. My time with NowKalamazoo truly stands out—it strengthened my skills, built my confidence, and affirmed my passion for journalism.

The internships I was able to be a part of while at WMU were so beneficial to my success, not only as a student, but as a young professional. I learned and honed my practical skills, made connections, and grew as a leader and person.

The summer going into my junior year, I had the amazing opportunity to intern at NowKalamazoo. In my twelve weeks as Community Resource Coordinator, I experienced tremendous personal and professional growth. I sharpened my research and writing skills, contributed to a variety of project types, and collaborated with award-winning writers and editors. I learned so much about service journalism and community-based reporting and gained a new appreciation for the work that goes into running a non-profit. The opportunity to get such incredible, hands-on experience so early on will serve me well when I graduate and begin to build my career.
