The School of Environment, Geography, and Sustainability at Western Michigan University offers a number of exciting interdisciplinary undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. Our distinguished and engaged staff offer high-quality curricula focused on providing you with the critical thinking and effective communication skills you will need to pursue a wide variety of careers. 

We explore environmental issues from multiple perspectives to allow you to understand the scientific basis of, and human dimensions that have led to, modern social and environmental challenges. We train our students to take interdisciplinary approaches to effect positive change.

What will I experience as an School of Environment, Geography, and Sustainability student?

We offer 8 undergraduate programs across topics like geography and tourism, environment and sustainability, and global and international studies, a master’s degree program in geography and three graduate certificates. Our master's degree is also offered as an accelerated option for undergraduates with senior standing.

That’s why we provide you with access to advisors who are faculty that can help you make the decision that is right for you. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our programs, it is very important to work closely with your advisors to ensure you make the right course selections. Also, don't hesitate to reach out to other faculty if you have questions about majors, careers, how to transition to university, or how to become engaged in research, local initiatives or volunteer opportunities.
