Minor in Medieval Studies

Are you looking for a minor that is self-directed and global in scope? If yes, then check out the Medieval Institute's medieval studies minor!
The medieval studies minor offers you the opportunity to explore many of your own interests and combine them in new and interesting ways.
Students with an undergraduate minor must complete 24 credit hours, to include the following:
- MDVL 1000—The Middle Ages, Then & Now (WES Level I, Inquiry and Engagement)
- MDVL 2000—Voices of the Middle Ages (WES Level II, Societies and Cultures)
Eighteen hours of electives may be chosen from eligible courses that include any substantial resources or subject matter from before the year 1800. Electives for the minor are approved by the director of the Medieval Institute, who is the advisor for the undergraduate minor. The student should take care that the courses selected represent the interdisciplinary nature of medieval studies.
Possible Course Options
To help students and their advisors plan a minor, below is a list of courses which the Director routinely approves for inclusion. Some things to keep in mind are:
- Since Medieval Studies is an interdisciplinary minor, usually no more than two courses in a single discipline are approved.
- Topics courses, if about pre-1800 subject matter (for example LANG 3750 often used for the “Arabian Nights”), are also routinely approved.
- In the following list, an asterisk indicates a WES course.
