Bio:
Rebecca West, Ph.D., MT-BC, (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy at Western Michigan University. Rebecca has been a board-certified music therapist since 2007 and has a wide range of clinical experience from infants to older adults, and client communities including autistic individuals, adults with Parkinson's Disease and dementia, adolescents from limited resource communities, and children with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Dr. West has also served as an internship director and supervisor.
West's research interests include music technology, critical pedagogy, and autism. West's co-authored chapter "Dismantling ableism in music therapy for Autistic students: An interpretivist study centering autistic music therapists’ perspectives" will be published in fall of 2025. She has delivered oral and paper presentations on music therapy and creative arts therapy at international, regional, and national conferences. West serves the music therapy community on the editorial board for the music therapy journals Music Therapy Perspectives and Voices: A World Forum for Music Therapy.
