In April 2020, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) granted accreditation at the initial and advanced levels to Western Michigan University until spring 2028. Accreditation documents are linked below.

As part of continued compliance with CAEP standards and accreditation requirements, an Annual Accreditation Report which includes publication of "key data and indicators" is required. CAEP Accreditation Policies and Procedures.

WMU's Institutional Score Report from the Michigan Department of Education

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) provides an Annual Score Report to each Michigan Educator Preparation Institution. With a score of 90.5%, WMU has again achieved the highest available ranking of Satisfactory. The MDE Methodology Report Manual is attached to WMU's Score Report. 
 

Michigan Educator Workforce Data Report

The Office of Educator Excellence at the Michigan Department of Education supports an interactive educator workforce dashboard that includes current and historical data on Michigan educator preparation, credentialing, and workforce trends.

a. Completer impact in contributing to P-12 student-learning growth

Data indicates that WMU prepared pre-service (intern) teachers positively impact P-12 student learning and development. MDE Annual Performance Score data indicated that WMU prepared teachers positively impact student learning. 

b. Completer effectiveness in applying professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions

WMU prepared teachers are consistently given the highest available effectiveness ratings.  

WMU candidates demonstrate competency at the end of their programs through assessments in their final clinical experiences and passing scores on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (initial and advanced level). Michigan Department of Education survey data from cooperating teachers, clinical supervisors, and teacher candidates provides additional information related to specific aspects of candidate preparation.
