Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Yufeng Hu, Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, Master Faculty Specialist – Lecturer
Dr. Yufeng Hu discovered that redesigning his Prestressed Concrete Design course around a single Michigan bridge project completely transformed how his graduate students approached structural engineering. By shifting from traditional lectures to hands-on design work that mirrors real industry practices, Hu found that students became more engaged and developed deeper technical understanding. The key was breaking down complex engineering challenges in just the right way.

Our Goal
The landscape of higher education is evolving rapidly, and the imperative to create impactful, diverse, and flexible learning experiences is more critical than ever. Delivering excellent academic experiences necessitates thoughtfully designed courses, inclusive teaching, and leveraging instructional technology to its full potential; however, staying on top of it all can be daunting, overwhelming, or frustrating.
Drawing on the expertise of our teams, WMU Teaching and Learning collaborates with instructors, staff, and administrators within the university to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and propel academic innovation forward in ways that directly benefit our campus community.
