College of Engineering and Applied Sciences recognizes its 2025 Presidential Scholars

Western Michigan University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences is honoring seven outstanding students as its 2025 Presidential Scholars, the highest academic honor that Western can bestow on its undergraduates. 

Success with interest: Support adds up for accountancy grad

Jesus Osvaldo Martinez-Jimenez found a number of opportunities to expand his professional portfolio within Haworth College of Business, from the Student Professional Readiness Series (SPuRS) program to multiple internships and even helping found a registered student organization. It all adds up to a full time job at a major accounting company that will be waiting for him when he graduates.

In Tempo—Twisted information: Professor guides listeners to the tune of media literacy

“Click: Connect IRL,” an album about media literacy that will become the cornerstone ofa musical by the same name in 2026, is now available on streaming services. Sue Ellen Christian, professor of communication and Presidential Innovation Professor 2021-24, and her collaborators wanted to release the musical’s songs prior to its launch to build excitement for the show. Tommy Szymanski Sizes Up the World of Aviation Management and Operations

When Tommy Szymanski was walking down the halls of Bishop Dwenger High School in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Ind., in his wildest dream he never imagined that within a few years he would be part of a team inspecting a main runway at a major airport in the middle of the night. But that's what happened to Szymanski, now in his final year as a major in aviation management and operations at the WMU College of Aviation. 

Waving the Western Flag: Claire Holloway immerses herself into Aviation and WMU culture

If the adage that it takes a village to raise a child is true, to Claire Holloway, the same perspective applies to the training of the next generation of aviation professionals. Holloway, now a junior majoring in flight science in the WMU College of Aviation, has sampled some of the opportunities a comprehensive university offers in preparing enrollees for future careers.

West Hills’ weekly summer youth tennis programming runs Monday through Thursday, from June 9 through the week of Aug. 21. Programs are available for beginners and competitive players. 

Aerospace student looks to the future with friend and faculty support
