Physical Exams

Sindecuse Health Center can serve as a student's Primary Care Provider while enrolled at WMU. We offer physical exams to this group. These might be annual exams or ones required by an academic program or internship. 

We serve University employees and their families age 12 and up who seek care for urgent and emergent needs. We do not offer annual physical exams to non-students.

Visitors may be surprised to learn that the electronic health record we use is designed to serve college-age students. Middle-aged to mature adults have medical management needs that are not supported within this system. For example, our EHR doesn’t prompt a provider to initiate or offer colon-screening or other age-related milestones. Our intake questionnaires are aimed at evaluating the needs and conditions of young adults in college settings.

While we are happy to serve employee's families with urgent and emergent health care needs, non-student patients are best served by starting a relationship with a local primary care provider. Area hospital groups have searchable databases of providers who are accepting new patients.

Gender-specific physical exams

We also offer gender-specific physical exams by appointment for students.

An annual female exam may include breast exam, pap smear, sexually-transmitted infection testing and other screening tests based on age-specific recommendations and health risks.

A male preventive physical exam may include testicular exam, STI testing and other screening studies recommended by age category and health risks.

These appointments may be scheduled online at the patient portal.

Sport physicals for young athletes

Sindecuse Health Center offers convenient pre-sport physicals for your sons and daughters age 12 and older as they get ready to play or tryout for their school team. For WMU employees with dependents on the Blue Cross PPO plan, it's a no-cost service offered all year round. For employees covered by other insurances, these low cost visits are described on our fees page.
